Does anyone have a tried and tested way for ensuring that a heavy fruit cake is cooked. Although thinking its cooked, mine of recent years have been too moist when cooked. Going to give it one more try this year.

Stick a metal skewer into the middle, if it comes out clean, it's done.
That's what my mother used to do - stick a tin knitting needle into it. Same with turkey and chicken to see if the juices ran clear.
Don't know where the superfluous "tin" in my answer came from.
I know, I meant to type "thin".

Yep done that! Perhaps its the recipe. I'll try a different one this year. Thanks anyway.
Rather moist than dry, in my opinion.

Buy a proper cake skewer. Very thin.
