A fryer as a Christmas present? Oh well. It's a tefal actifryer

Not cheap tho!
Or, do you mean the newer and superior Philips Airfryer?
There are 79 reviews of the Tefal Actifry on ReviewCentre.com.
People seem to either love it (awarding 5 stars out of 5) or loathe it (awarding it only 1 star out of 5), with very few people 'taking the middle ground':

The 208 reviews on the Argos website though are nearly all very good:

Well it would be nice to know exactly which fryer you're referring to!

The Philips product is well-reviewed on Amazon:

.....but the Philips one is only about £200; a small price to pay to keep the in-laws healthy, I (don't) think.
As long as you are frying your chips in fat, no matter how little I can't really see where it is healthy. Sounds like a sneaky way to sell them, but I haven't seen them.
The ads for the Tefal say that you need only a tablespoon of oil.....that is certainly a lot healthier than normal deep fat frying.
problem is it takes about 1 hour to cook chips
Aunt Bessie's homestyle chips are great. I do them in my combination oven. 16 mins for 300g on grill 3. Best Iv'e tasted yet.
I've got a Tefal Actifry and I love it and wouldn't be without it.It takes aprox 35 mins to cook chips for 2-3 but the preparation is a bit time consuming as you have to wash the chips several times and dry very very thoroughly before cooking. A small price to pay I feel for scrummy chips cooked in only 1 spoon of Light olive oil. Admittedly, the price of the fryer is a bit steep but if you like chips and want to eat healthily then go for it.
