Heston's Orange Christmas Pudding, anyone tastede it yet (Unlikely I know)

Is anyone thinking of serving this for their X-mess dinner? If so will you be doing a "dry run" to taste it prior to X-mess?

I saw it advertised (is it Waitrose selling it?) - I thought it looked vile.

Boxtops Boxtops I'm just wondering about the taste as as far as I'm concerned orange only goes with chocolate. I love to put a lemon in a chicken cavity but recently never had any and remembered a top chef (Jamie Oliver I think) saying that orange stuffed in a chicken is a great and tasty idea so I done this and was left with a horrible tasting bitter orange chicken that I had to force and gag down, never again!

I can't meself see how a cooked orange in the Christmas pud is going to be yummy with brandy butter.... I won't be getting one!

I'll be honest with you, I don't even understand how you'll have room for a heavy dense X-mas pud after some great turkey/beef or lamb cabbage veg and gravy which I'd prefer to fill up on.

We usually have a tiny pud, just as a gesture to the occasion!

Whenever I've tried putting a whole orange into anything the result has been inedible...all I can taste is the bitterness of the pith.
I've never tried the pudding where you put a whole lemon in the middle as I'm sure it would also taste very bitter.
So...I won't be trying heston's pud.

Good idea ladyalex, I think a little juice and zest is suffice as not to overpower whatever it is you're cooking.

Juice and zest are great in anything, sweet or savoury...as far as I am concerned, but pith..yuk!

Ooh, I like that pudding! I've just come back from Manchester and their Christmas lights are up, all little white lights, looks very pretty.

well, i'm out of step here but i think it sounds very nice - not that i'll be buying one, i already have a selection of small individual puddings for christmas day. i really like the taste of orange in puddings.

The taste of orange is great.....it's the taste of the bitter pith that is the problem.

it's a candied orange so i imagine it won't be too bitter. bit expensive at £13.99 though. might be tempted to buy one if we had a waitrose within reasonable distance as i'm going 'cheap and cheerful' on the rest of the food this year. we had a goose last year which cost an arm and a leg and was a complete and total waste of money, barely enough meat on it for 4 of us and really stringy. this year it's back to asda's ready basted turkey which have always been succulent and tasty.

We had Aldi's 3 bird roast again last year - cheap and cheerful and very tasty!

i tried that boxy, not on christmas day but sometime in january, and really didn't like it. there was a spice used in the stuffing which tainted the whole thing, i'm not sure what it was, maybe cloves or cinnamon. shame because i was really looking forward to it.
