I've heard this either being referred to as a floater or an ice drink
ice cream soda

I don't think it was lemonade, believe it was "Cream Soda".

We used to drink it with milk as well.

We used to call it an ice cream float. Takes me back...Vimto... Sarsaparilla ... Dandelion and burdock ...
We always used to call any fizzy drink with ice cream on top an ice cream float
Xollob, thanks for reminding me about Sarsparilla, used to love that stuff as a kid. Anyone know if and where you can still get it.
Dandelion and Burdock is just as good and Morissons do the diet version which is scrummy.
Xollob, thanks for that.

Cream Soda with a dollop of cornish ice cream, sipped through a wide straw - still love it - mmmm!

..mmm....yum ..yum..Icecream Sodas...55 years since I had my first at the Harbour Bar in Scarborough....last one I had was last August..same place....can't wait for the next..<G>
We always called them spiders, not sure why, maybe it was an Australian thing. Different fizzy drinks had different names (like coke being a huntsman spider, raspberry being a redback spider, etc).
Try a scoop of icecream in elderflower presse, or elderflower cordial mixed with wither fizzy water or lemonade - absolutely gorgeous, smells heavenly. Bottle Green make the best one (stocked in many supermarkets).

Smokies. Made with ice cream, cream soda pop and a Cadbury flake all popped in a pint glass - scrummy!

we just called them ice cream drinks and the best was with coke . i actually remember them stopping selling coke in my old school canteen at the time because everyone was mixing their ice cream in and every where was getting a mess with it foaming over.
Ice cream float. My grandma used to make me these with lemonade or cream soda and i loved them. I couldnt face one these days, the way the ice cream floats on top of the liquid! It turns my stomach!!
yeah my gran used to make these for me too, she called them snowballs. But same here I dont think I could bring myself to try it now. I can taste it as we speak.
ye, i thought it was an ice cream float or an ice cream soda or something like that :P
