Heston Blumenthal is hoping to do for much-mocked airline food and NHS meals what he did for Little Chef - by raising culinary standards.
The award-winning chef, whose Fat Duck restaurant ranks among the world's best, aims to transform food and profits at five organisations for a Channel 4 series.
Heston's Michelin Impossible will see him take on the kitchen challenges of British Airways, NHS, the Royal Navy, Cineworld Cinemas and ferry company Stena Line.
Heston is known for his unconventional dishes and taste experiments and took on the task of overhauling roadside chain Little Chef for a previous series.
The series is to be aired from January
Channel 4 said: "Heston conducts outrageous and bizarre experiments in his quest to find solutions where other chefs have failed."
The chef will also be seen taking part in a season of programmes about fish, the Great Fish Fight.

I remember when Egon Ronay, only one of many, was supposed to do the same thing for us. Net result? Still the same old stuff we were being presented with 30 years ago - or even worse, as airlines do their utmost to reduce costs.
Indeed he was boxtops,I think it was him I was thinking of and not HB.
However,if Lloyd(who is a good businessman) cannot achieve it,then there is no hope for HB.
Lloyd was aghast(I remember) at the minute amount of money allocated per patient per day for food.
How(with his outlandish ingredients) will HB fare I wonder.
It should make interesting TV however.

i doubt heston will use outlandish ingredients but what he will bring is an alternative way of looking at the menus of some of these institutions, something which is long overdue.
as far as little chef are concerned, at least he tried and made them re-evaluate not only their menus but their entire concept. you either like heston or loath him, i like him. wish i could get hold of one of his christmas puds :o)

Found out a bit of goss about this one. I don`t think he`s changing any menus or bringing his limitless wisdom to the airline world. The programme is about the challenges of producing food that is served in unusual places. I believe he did a one-off flight to the Middle East in Club class and he`ll be on a submarine and an oil rig I think
