Sweet. Made with lots of butter
just full of butter if properly made - and all you need add is jam.
whatever takes your fancy!
They can be both. I either have mine with choc spread or melted cheese and ham.
A plain croissant is savoury............but it doesn't take much to turn them sweet.
Pain au chcolat is something to behold

you say "made with lots of butter" as if that explains why you think they are sweer. Butter isn't sweet is it?

this is as tricky as the "is peanut butter sweet or savoury" question :)
Peanut butter is savoury, too...................:o)
Not my taste as to the chocolate but each to their own.

There aren't too many places in the UK that make a really good croissant like a French boulangerie......certainly not the cr-p you buy in supermarkets.

Living near Paris was very civilised - Sunday am, pick up the English papers, croissants and an expresso or two - and then a wander around the local farmers market held on a Sunday and a couple of local businesses (s-mkts had to close) to buy for lunch and dinner if you werent eating out.......
Neither - it's what you put in them that's sweet or savoury. Bit like asking if bread is one or the other.

peanut butter is sweet, sorry :)
Question Author
but Bread IS savoury
Oh no it isn't...............:o)
I like fruit loaf. Thats sweet and kind of savoury at the same time.
agree, tigger - it is pretty good....
I would say they're sweet.
I know of butter croissant and chocolate croissant and I wouldn't describe them as being sweet. Plain warm butter croissant is my favourite of the two.
-- answer removed --
peanut butter usually has salt added but not sugar so is savoury
croissant are usually neutral as any sugar added will react with the yeast in proving
to my taste they are sweet, but then plain coffee tastes sweet to me.
