out of date coco powder?

Hello,

I am going to make some chocolate concrete today but the coco powder I found (what's opened) says best before May 2010 my question is .. is there any risk of sickness or anything by using it? can you even get food poisoning fry using it?

Properly stored (i.e. cool, dry, dark), it should be ok for about 24 months.
The most likely issue you will have is that it has settled and is less free flowing, I recommend sifting in into your mixing bowl.

It's virtually inert and health risks are negligible to non existent.

Products which may be hazardous to consume after a certain period of time must, by law, be labelled 'Use by'.

Where something is labelled 'Best before' it indicates that there may be a deterioration in the quality after the specified date but that there is no risk to health from consuming that product later than the date given.

You can safely use the cocoa powder.

Chocolate concrete! Loved it at school with mint custard. Please (pretty please with a cherry on the top) tell me the recipe.
I just finished cocoa powder that went out of date in 1999 and I'm still here!
