we are having friends round for a fish & chip supper tomorrow but I am stuck for a starter. I've got some chorizo and serrano ham, but melons are very expensive at the moment.

Has anyone got any idea what to do? I am doing mixed fruit and cream/yoghurt or ice cream for dessert.

Yes I know! A lazy supper.

thanks

keeping with the fish theme - melba toasts or bilinis with smoked salmon & cream cheese? you could serve the serrano ham & chorizo on bilibis too

Thanks for those, the other half doesn't like smoked salmon so that is out, but the hams with the buffalo mozzarella sounds nice (pickles & gherkins will be on the table for the fish & chips anyway) - especially with an artisan bread.
