You can't roast a chicken in a slow cooker, but you can just put a whole chicken in the slow cooker with salt, pepper, herbs if you like, and cook for about 4 hours.
Very nice.
yes lovely very tender done it a lot. If you pour off juices when chicken is ready and leave a few minutes it dries up the skin making more like oven done. mmmmmmm

do you put wine or anything in it
Yes I have tried it and it was nice but not a lot better than when cooked in the oven. I cooked it in chicken stock, sage, thyme, onion and lemon, and that made wonderful gravy. Alternatively the lamb, beef and pork joints i do in the slow cooker are much nicer than oven cooked IMO

i was thinking once the chook was ready i could use the juices for a soup base
it's good but the skin will be like rubber.. chuck it in the oven and blast it if you like to eat the skin.
The juices are very greasy - cooking this way seems to get all the fat out.
I don't put any wine or any fluid in it, unless I'm doing a casserole.

If you intend using the oven for roast potatoes etc you might as well cook it in the oven.

hc,i think i will cook it in the oven
I often do a whole, huge chicken in the slow cooker. Season with thyme, black pepper, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice. No other liquid----yummm
I have a chicken in my slow-cooker as we speak...for dinner this evening.
yes you can roast a chicken in the slow cooker - screw up some foil so it doesn't sit on the bottom of the pan and voila, roasted chook
