I've got half a dozen medium cooked steaks in the freezer....How can I use them all at once...Soup? or something else?(As an old geezer I don't want anything too hard, and if the worst comes to the worst I would thaw them, put in a pan and fry for a bit then eat!

ron, i think you've got that a bit wrong.
raw meat shouldn't be re-frozen if it's defrosted and not been cooked, but it's fine to freeze it again once it's been cooked.
johnty, i'd chuck it into a casserole pot with a load of veg and/or beans or pulses and some stock on a low light in the oven and leave it for a few hours. i'm pretty sure that would tenderise it and...

What would you want to use them all at once for?
Question Author
To get rid of them really, although it's not strictly necessary!
Invite 6 people round for a steak and ale evening!

You mean like mass poisoning?
Your cooking is like mine then? LOL
I dread to imagine what a once frozen steak could taste like. Must be like chewing cardboard. You could always put them in some gravy and put in cookpot to hopefully get some tenderness in them.

It probably is!!I was given these steaks at anHotel,so just slung them into the freezer....I'm a dab hand at soups and that's about all...I was hoping for a bit of enlightenment!!!
I suppose if you cut the meat up very small and added loads of veg it could make a good thick soup. Let us know how you get on!
If the steaks had already been cooked (as is indicated by your question) they should not then have been put into the freezer.

Personally,I would dump them into the waste bin; to avoid any possibility of food poisoning by re-heating them.

Rubbish, I have frozen cooked meat, thawed it, cooked it and eaten it. No ill effects!
Sorry Ron, didn't mean to sounds so angry!

Yes Chop the meat up and use it as a stew or casserole with some onions and veg plenty of gravy.

Thanks everyone....Casserole it will be! Thanks again, John
Sorry folks if I am over fussy about cooked meat being reheated. I often use cooked meat in Pastas, Curries, Casseroles etc: but only if I know it's history from having been cooked in my own kitchen.

Any cooked beef which has been kept for more than two hours in temperatures above 5c is not really a safe commodity to eat. :-

I quite understand Ron. I like to know where my meat has been and agree about the heat in kitchen etc.
Hi tenrec....My real concern is about the meat that has been given to johnty.

Do hotels give away food from their kitchens if the chef can do something further with it.!!??

Hi Viv,The Grandkid works in the kitchen of a good class hotel and he was offered them at the end of the night....He was also offered a large cake, which looked like the bottom tier of a wedding cake.He did'nt really want it so they CHUCKED IT IN THE BIN!!!! (Once it's been in that bin NOBODY would want it! It just shows the amount of waste in these places..). John
Hi johnty...I agree a lot of food is wasted.

Your grandson will know the history of the steaks and, bearing in mind all that has been said in this thread, you are in the best position to decide what you do with them. It's my guess they should be ok. However I am at a loss to appreciate why they had been cooked if they hadn't been ordered.

I reckon they were probably half cooked to save time? Anyway they are all going into what looks like a fabulous Jamie Oliver stew tomorrow together with half a bottle of red wine!! Cheers, John
