Yes it's a stupid question. Bread or anything else isn't a no-no if you're on a diet - it's the total number of calories that counts compared with the amount of calories you burn in a day. Simple but true.

Thank you for your reply......I must get out of the habit of asking stupid questions!......
A small amount of wholemeal bread tastes nicer than a large amount.
It's not so much the bread that's the problem for dieters, it's what goes on it and whether you're a butter lover.
Ryvita do some nice crispbreads.I like the sesame seeds one.
Crispbreads or rice cakes are a good alternative, but like suechu said, the big problem with bread, crispbreads or rice cakes is what you put on them. If you smother them with butter, then that defeats the purpose. I would have thought that wholemeal bread with just a smear of low calorie spread would be fine.
It's not a stupid question!

How about making your own? Soda bread is just flour and buttermilk. Very very easy.

You can buy Wrights bread to make in most super markets. if you look on their site it gives you an idea what the calorie content etc is. They make many different flavours and they are just as good made into small bread rolls!
Have a look.

Thank you to all! I have thought about making our own- and, in fact done so about a year ago only to be slightly disappointed at the dominant taste of the 'built-in' yeast.....however I will give some of your site links a try....thanks again!
