coffee essence

I have a recipe for a cake which uses coffee essence. I don't want to buy some as I wouldn't use it that often so could I use normal instant coffee instead and how much

2 teasp instant coffee in as little boiling water to mix. Leave to cool.This is about right for an 8 oz mix.
