When I was little, my gran used to make delicious oaty biscuits called melting moments. They couldn't have been too difficult because I used to help. Unfortunately I can't find any of her old recipe books and I would love to have a go at them again. Can anyone help?

Hi empressali - this is my Mother-In-Laws recipe - and very good it is too, and very easy to make.

5oz Trex
3oz Marg or butter
6oz caster sugar
10 oz self raising flour (or 5 oz self raising flour and 5 oz ground almonds)
1 egg
vanilla essence
oats
cherries for decoration

Cream fat and sugar, beat in egg then work in flour (and ground almonds if using) and essence. Roll into balls with wet hands and coat with oats and press out slightly. Put half a glace cherry in middle and cook in moderate oven (350F or 180C) for 15-20 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from tin.

Spudqueen, you are a star and a half. This must be the recipe....it even has the glace cherries that I used to love so much. Thank you very much.
Our recipe was similar

10oz SR flour
6oz Caster sugar
4oz Butter or similar

Of course you can add choc chips, nuts, chopped glace cherries and even roll them in desicated coconut instead of oats

What a brilliant idea. Thanks annierak, I bet that really changes both the flavour and texture. I'll try it.
