Or make a 'tempura' with 4 oz. flour and half a pint of lager, pinch of salt. Whisk to mix and dip in fish - fry, drain and enjoy...a beer batter is a traditional one that will always be nice and light and not a cloying mix.
Hope this helps..

just make a thin batter(rather like double cream) with self-raising flour, salt and cold water. If you really want to make sure the batter sticks, toss the fish first in s.r.flour, then the batter. Fry in good hot fat. If you put a piece of bread in and it browns quickly, it is hot enough. Bon Appetit!
thanks guys never got these postings, whats up with answerbank lol!!!!, anyway having tested several recipes from cookery books, some with eggs, egg whites, plain flour, s/r flour, sift, dont sieve, beer, bicarb,i found the best ver, cos couldnt wait for any recipes from u guys starvin, its made with lager, soda water, plain flour, cornflour, u dont chill it either, you only whisk it once and then again in 10mins, though thought it was a tad thin, got worried, but no superb outcome, in fact going to have it again tonite!!!!!, with homemade chips, peas, and tartare sauce, almost orgasmic!!!!
