Hi, I currently use a recipe which adds 1 tsp of bicarbonate of soda and 1tsp of salt to 600gs dry ingredients (flours and oats). A friend has recently bought back from Ireland some Bread Soda which she was told is what they use there. There are no instructions on the packet and I wondered if someone could give me some advice on what quantity to use and which if either of the ingredients I use this may replace. Many thanks.
bread soda is the only raising agent needed in making irish soda bread it works best if used with buttermilk for mixing the dry ingredients i use 1 heaped tea spoon of bread soda to approx 450g \ 1 lb dry ingredients have a very healthy version recipe if you are interested
