Jack Daniels
Jack Daniels is among the world's best-selling liquors. It is famous for its square bottles and black label. The drink is available in several brands: Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Gentleman Jack and a classic combination of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and Cola served in a 330ml can.
Jack Daniel left home at around ten years old to live with Mr Dan Call. Call was a Lutheran minister but also owned a whiskey still just outside of Lynchburg, Tennessee. It was here where young Jack learned about making whiskey. In September of 1863, when Jack was only 13 years old, Call decided to devote his life to his ministry and sold Jack the still.
The Jack Daniel Distillery was licensed in 1866, making it the oldest registered distillery in the United States and a National Historic Site. Since Daniel never married and did not have any children, he took his favorite nephew, Lem Motlow, under his wing. In 1907, due to failing health, Daniel gave the distillery to his nephew.
Many stories have been passed down about the significance of Old No. 7 some of which are that Jack Daniel had 7 girlfriends, or that the way he wrote his “J” looked like a 7, or that he chose the number 7 simply because it’s lucky, or that it was the railroad shipping number on a barrel, or that the recipe for Jack Daniel’s was Jack’s 7th recipe or 7th trial batch.
