make weaker golf shot with a manner on a tee

i think it could be "nail away at" but i have never heard that expression and i cannot find it after several attempts with google, can some kind soul enlighten me please, thanks in advance

i had fine painting for one across which threw me off completely, i now see that it must be face painting which is rather unusual but it does work at a pinch. thank you very much again and. kind regards
