saving pc game dilema

hi i just started to play a old pc game adventure one called syberia it is quite long and i got half way throught but then with 5the game been old it has got scratched and so crashes at a certain part ( i cant take it back as i bought it ages ago) so i am going to buy the game again ( i can get it for about a fiver) !BUT when i then install this new disk will it clear all my saved game off my old one and iwill i have to start from the beggining again or will i still be at my last saved point x

to be safe i'd just save your save file to desktop and replace it with the new one thats created once you've reinstalled correctly (added the same patches)
thing is though you shouldn't have to reinstall i dont think. just start using the new disk.
or you could save yourself �5 and download the no-cd fix from www.gamecopyworld.com , install the fix and your comp wont go looking for the cd and you can then play without it.
