Sims 2 missing neighbourhood

2 days ago I was playing on my Sims 2 game on a neighbourhood that I'd custom created. I saved/quit as usual without any problems. Yesterday i came to play my game and it crashed 3 times, always at the last stage of the loading process, right before you're taken to the neighbourhood chooser. I cleaned the disc and re-started my PC and that took away my crashing problem, but my neighbourhood was gone. It still exists in the EA games folder in my documents, but i can't get it to appear in my game. does anyone know what might have gone wrong and how/if it can be fixed?
