Downloads on computer

Hi I wonder if anyone can help,this thick person? When downloading something from the internet,and its taking ages,can you shut down your computer,and still get the download? or has that broken the download??thanks from the dummy

In common with most things your computer works best when it's switched on! so no you can't turn it off mid download.

If you have a download manager installed you could switch it off and then it would continue the next time you switch it on, but for most normal installs with most browsers you'd have to start the download again from scratch.
