The Hive Server For Mine Craft

My 9 year old has been told by his friends about hive ..
We have downloaded it, and it seems likes like a fun game, but there is a lot of swearing in the chat.. The rules are no swearing and there are obviously children playing the game.. I don't want to turn chat off for my son, but wondered if there is a way of reporting the culprits?

I suspect not. You could try contacting the company but don't hold your breath. If the chat room originates and is hosted in the UK you might have some leverage by reminding them of their duty of care towards youngsters but otherwise in foreign parts rules are different or nonexistent to manage behaviour in chatrooms. On the other hand, it might be a good opportunity to have a talk with the little fellow about bad language along the lines of - this is what bad people say when they think they can't be told off - do you think it's right? And we won't use those words will we etc etc
He will inevitably encounter potty mouth online so helping him to see the perpetrators as losers rather than heroes will help him develop self-awareness and self discipline.
Worse than the foul language, these unmoderated chatrooms are visited by paedophiles looking to make contact with children, so helping the lad to keep anonymous, to cpome to you if something weird makes him feel uneasy etc will be another great support to his development.

Hi mosaic, thanks for your answer. We have talked a lot about keeping anonymous, and I've been keeping a close eye on how it works, hence I saw the swearing! I was really worried about him joining a public site, but that's a really good idea about highlighting the rule breakers and talking about how not to be!! I suppose you are always going to get these people. I will just keep monitoring it! Thanks
