Last night me and my friend stayed up until 3am playing monopoly and adding in random rules. Nobody I've ever met plays the actual official rules, so what extra rules have you made up in the game?
We use the "any money paid to chance or community chest goes in the middle and gets won if you land on free parking" rule, and me and my sister also made up that if you land on a space you own, ven if you don't own all of the colour-group you can build a house on that street.
When I was a kid some friends and I collected the money together from several sets of Monopoly and also played the 'all fines go on free parking' rule.
We also allowed more than more one hotel per property so the rent was multiplied by however many hotels a property had.
I remember the game going on for ages and we all got very rich.
I've just read 'Do Not Pass Go' by Tim Moore which is the story of the streets on the Monopoly board. He says that his father brought home from USA an American copy, him and his siblings then overlapped the Go squares and played two boards in a figure of eight shape!
Share out all the properties and utilities etc at the start of the game randomly and you can swap with other players at the right price always good fun!!!
You're actually only supposed to sell the amount of houses in the set, but I remember if there were no "green ones left" we'd use other stuff instead to represent a house, thereby having loads + hotels.
