Because it is teken from behind the character i.e., you can see the character in front of you, just like Resi 4 or Tomb Raider, whereas if you're looking at the game through the eyes of the person, then that's a first person.

And that's why it's crap. If it's 1st person your'e playing the game. If it's 3rd person your'e watching the game !!! Think about it, racing games are ***** if your'e watching YOUR car from behind. Get behind the wheel. Therefore if your'e playing shoot em ups get behind the firearm !!!

Surely 3rd person allows more options with the character eg blind firing and the ability to stay in cover whilst observing whats going on around you.

Hi mattk. If you want blind firing check out rainbow 6 vegas. they got a cool little system of peaking round corners whilst still being able to fire. The other point is, If your able to see what's going on around you then it's not a realistic portrayal of combat and I would argue that it lessens the games appeal. I.E. cheating of sorts!!

Yes I have R6V too and it is excellent.
I never said being able to see whats going around you was realistic,I was referring to it in the context of the benefits of 3rd person.
Perfect dark is 1st person but when you switch to cover it becomes 3rd too.

I like FPS games but i think 3rd person allows some clever additions.

The thing is, it all comes down to personal taste, i like 1st and 3rd person shooters, as long as they are good games of course, but i wouldn't slag off either format just cos i don't like them.
