After the initial hype, when will there be a healthy UK supply of PlayStation 3 units? In terms of when one would be able to walk into any store and buy one without preordering.

the nintendo wii still isn't like that yet. and seeing the hype over the the ps3 before it's been released my guess would be september time. i've been trying desperately to get a wii

Reports in America suggest the initial production run didn't sell out and they were still on the shelves at Christmas time.

I think the price simply puts it out of the range of most people, �200(ish), which I think the original PS and PS2 was on release is an amount I'd imagine many parents would spent on little johnny to play some games, but �450 isn't.

The Wii for example had a tight Europen released schedule (only a month or so after the US/Japan), so in effect the whole world felt the effects of the initial production run.

I would agree.Very shortly after launch these consoles will be freely available.

dude even if you preorder noe now then you probavbl wont get it until about june or july so it wont be freely available in the shops until roughly august or september. i recommend amazon if you are going to preorder as they were the best company to deal with the wii.

hawkman do you honestly believe a console priced at over �400 will sell out after initial fan-boy buy-ups ?
for the same price i could buy a 360 entertainment pack and get 2 controllers and 3-4 games...i know which i would rather do.

I agree with Matt, the only reason it will sell out to start with in Europe, is the face they reckon there will be only 100,000, for the whole of Europe. I was the biggest Sony fan boy you could meet, but i bought a 360, and when you consider 95% of the games available for the PS3 will be on 360 too, is it really worth �425?

Same here. I loved my PSX and PS2, and thought I'd always stay faithful to Sony. Then I bought a 360. HOW GOOD! Call of Duty 3 is probably the best game I have ever played, BUY AN XBOX 360!!!

Honestly Dave, I reckon you're looking at 12 months from now for the PS 3 to be freely available I really do. like Gary 9074 said earlier I was A PS2 afficionado. Hated the X-box. The controller was crap and all sorts but then I bought a 360 and WHOOHOO !!!!! I can't believe sony are asking that much for the console. I've read the specs for the PS 3 and they are awesome but still to average joe like you and I and the vast majority of gamers in the uk 400 quid is a lot of not disposable /ready money. All the best.
