PS2 Disk read error

My son has a slimline PS2 for a while it has not worked properly. I have managed to get it to accept a few games but the ones it will only play are the blue ones. Also it is making some very weird clicking noises and yesterday it asked me to insert a Playstation or PS2 Format disk. It always brings up the browser menu first before it tries to read a disk now.

Any ideas on what could be wrong is it worth paying out to get it fixed or should we reluctantly buy him a new one?

I am getting to the stage where I want to fling it through the window.

We had same problem with our ps2. My partner took it out into workshop and blasted it with the compressor to get the dust out!!! failing that you could try your hoover. some people have said to try it turned upside down. at the moment if it doesn't read i press eject and turn the disk slightly in the rack, weird but it works for us sometimes.Good luck!!!!

I have encountered a very similar problem.

My brother gave me his PS2, which he says is broke. It always goes to the browser window, and it fails to read any game discs I put in.

We gave up trying with the PS2 and got him another one. I was going for a pre-owned one but I got a brand new one for �20 more with a free jnr buzz game worth �35.

It was �94.99 in total.

A disc read error or DRE as its known is the result of natural laser degredation after prolonged use. you get the same thing with DVD & CD players if you google PS2 DRE they will give you instructions on how to raise/lower the read lense but it will viod the warrenty.
