Three rings of death - xbox 360

Hi all, I have just got in from work to find a very distraught hubby, apparently the 360 has died. I am trying to be sympathetic but I have no idea what the "three rings of death" are. He's tried showing me i.e. he turned the console on and three quarters of the ring surrounding the power switch are red. Is this fixable? I only bought him the machine in May (5 months ago!) and I am not happy if it is cream-crackered already! Many thanks

It is cream crackered but the good news is that it can be replaced FOC.
First of all you might want to try ringing the shop where you bought it.As it is only 5 months old, they should/might let you bring it back for a straight swap for a new one(Game did this for me when mine was 7 months old).
Failing that you need to ring Microsoft who come and get it, repair it and return it but this may take over 3 weeks.

Thanks for your help, I bought the console from Play so although I will try them first it may take just as long as Microsoft! Thanks again. Just as long as I know all is not lost....

No probs.Im guessing cos play cannot be visited in person it makes it easier for them to say no to a replacement console.Good luck.

THey shouldn't say no. I'm sure there's laws covering distance selling for this sort of thing...but It might be easier to call microsoft anyway...

i believe microsoft have recognised there is a design fault with the 360 as the rings of death are very common. It is caused by an overheating problem and as a result Microsoft have extended the warranty on these so a repair/replacement shouldn't be an issue.
Hubby might just have to wait a while
