dead space asteroids

Is there any cheat to slow the asteroids down while i am sat in the tower trying to blast them? the game is being played on my laptop and cannot get past the level using my mouse, neither can any mates who try, they are all used to joysticks xbox style, but i cant confugure my lap top to use one of these (i have tried configuring a rumble pad but to no avail)
