Japan will initially only have 100,000 units and the US 400,000, though I read yesterday that the Japan numbers are to be cut by 20%.
I think Sony are having trouble sourcing components for the Bluray drive hence the very small numbers. On launch day of the PS2 Japan had 900,000 to go around and the US 400,000.
It looks likes Sony now considers the US a more important market than Japan. Europeans once again are at the back of the queue.
