How to change control settings for Mario Kart Wii?

We have just got a Wii with Mario Kart and it came with the steering wheel.

I wan to know is it possible to change the control settings to use just the normal controller using the D-Pad?

If so, can some tell me how to do it?

Don't think you can change to d pad layout. Best way is to plug the nunchuk into the remote.

You then use the stick on the nunchuk to control direction. The d-pad and buttons then change to suit this format of control.

This I have found is the best way to control Mario kart. The wheel is ok, but sometimes it�s not responsive enough when you�re in the thick of a battle or race.

I think you just have to plug in the controller and when you get to the controller select screen for each player use the buttons on the controller instead of the A button on the Wii remote. You definitely can play with a controller as I do
