I'm an adult and choose to play a game for long periods but for kids it's a different matter.
Try and cut it down. 4-5 hours is not good.
At my worst point I played a game for well over 12 hours in one stretch.
There are very good aspects of playing games. Increasing reaction times is one of them but as pointed out it also depends on what they are playing.
I would try and limit it to 1-2 hours a day. They will be tears but in the long run it is better for them.
I do understand why children and adults do it. It's one of the few places in life you can sink into and shut out the world and win.
In those games you are incharge and in todays world that can be very appealing.

Wow, 4/5 hours for a child?
That seems to be an awfully long time. I'm assuming they go to school? So lets also assume they get home about 4ish? Then on the puter till 8/9 at night?
Not sure if it's actually your children you're talking about, and if they are, I apologise if I come across as telling you what to do with your kids, but it seems to me that spending time together as a family isn't done here.

A lot depends on the type of games really. If they are just shoot em ups or similar then that length of time is way too much! My 11 year old son plays a lot of historical strategy games on the PC and you would not believe how much he knows about history that his friends have no idea about. He can name dates and figures in history that I have never heard of and give you the order of the Roman emperors from the first to the last and how long they reigned for,how and when they died etc.
