The above was born in 1867/8 in Dudley Port (Great Bridge), on the border of Staffordshire and Worcestershire .............. found her on the 1881 (visiting the Bridge Inn, Birmingham) but need to find her on 1871 census so I can see her parents names .... can anyone help? Think I have tried every possible transcription error, but am clearly missing something .... TIA

If that is the right family John Shaw is easy to go back with as his Christening is on ancestry and I assume Alice's maiden name was Harrison?
Yes it was they were married in 1853 in the Stoke On Trent RD.

Alice Harrison is easy too, on the 1851 and 1841, her father was William.

The Alice Maria i found on the birth index is the daughter of Matthew Shaw and so that isn't the one you want either.

I think this is him although I cannot find Alice living with him. He is the only Fitter I can find called Thomas Shaw, roughly the right age and his mother was called Maria.
In 1871 living at 55 Sheepmarsh (sic) Lane, Tipton.

Re the 1881 census I see that Arthur Shaw and Florence Shaw were Alice's witnesses when she got married.

That is tha family another ancestry member has as being that of Akice maria, they do not have her on any earlier census than the 1891.
It does look right craft, though the births must have been very very close, as Akice was supposedly born 1867/68 and Arthur 1868/69. There is no civil registration record that works for Alice, though a couple could be Arthur but they are Q1 1868 and Q2 1868 which doesn't leave alot of time for Alice, but still possible, I'm going to check to see if she was born abit earlier, in say 1866.
