How do I look up a census reference. I want the 1891 census RG12 Piece 4617 folio 94 Page 7. It is for Rhostyllan, Denbighshire. I think an elusive ancestor (Thomas Morris) may be a visitor in a household, but he kept changing his place of birth which makes it difficult looking up via name.

thanks!

What's the civil parish?
Do you have the actual address as opposed to the census references?

No, I was only given the census reference. I am looking for Thomas Morris who is a visitor, aged 50, widower. When I search under Thomas Morris I can't find anything in this area.
It's page 17 not page 7. Thomas Morris is a Visitor If you put in Thomas Edwards, born 1841 in Llay, Chester, and living in Denbighshire you should find him.

Thomas Edwards 50
Mary Edwards 50
Sarah Edwards 23
John Edwards 21
Thomas Morris 50
Thomas Powell 35
Jane Walker 14
Here it is from a different database............The address is Plas Yn Fron

Thanks Craft! I don't think it is my gt gt grandad though. This one is born in Wrexham and mine was born in Llangollen, however, he put his birthplace as Tranmere in the 1881 census. I know he had died by 1895 when my gt grandmother married, but was still alive in 1885 when his second wife died as she is listed as his wife and he is a cooper (journeyman) which probably means he could be anywhere!
no carole a 'journeyman' does not mean he was a travelling tradesman, it means not yet a Master, he was a craftsman but could not employ anyone, therefore working for a master cooper, (barrelmaker),
Question Author
Thanks Dotty, I always thought Journeyman meant he travelled around with his trade. He probably died in Cheshire then, but I have sent away for two certificates and both were not him.
carole it is all down to who it was who gave the census information to the enumerator at the time. what occupations are given on the census returns from 1881 - 1891? or even on the earlier ones.
