Jane "Jeannie" Reid was born in 1891 in Scotland. She married James Neil Hughes in November 1924, but she is shown as divorced. Can't for the life of me find her previous marriage. Can anyone help, please.
(NB, there is a record for her on ancestry in a couple of family trees, but I am convinced it is wrong).
but surely on the marriage certificate she would have her married name and her maiden name. does it say previous marriage dissolved? or late something formerly reid? often it would say 'the divorced wife of etc etc' is her father's surname the same as hers making her maiden name reid? it would not be legal to marry in her maiden name I don't think, I've not found her on any tree in ancestry as yet/.
Dotty, it gives her name as "Reid" and underneath her name it says "Divorced". I know it is the right Jeannie because it names her parents (its a Scottish marriage certificate) and her brother in law was a witness. I find it really odd that it doesn't mention her previous name - unless of course she married someone called Reid!
Agnes was born on 2 Oct 1890, then Jeannie in Nov 1891, then Janet in Jan 1893, then David in Jun 1896 then Elizabeth Nicol in Oct 1901, then RObina in Jan 1904, then Margaret Ann in July 1906, then Alice in Oct 1907. There are two children I can't find (Lily and one whose name begins with an R) and I also have no idea what happened to Margaret. They are a troublesome family!!!
i'm starting to agree with you that the tree on ancestry is incorrect, the 1891 census for the family does not have a robina and the husband on the tree has robina born 1890 marrying a frank hentchel and the one with robina born 1904 has her marrying frank henshell and emigrating to canada
I think I've already been in contact with her but she couldn't help. I know that the stuff about Robina emigrating to Canada is wrong because I know more about Robina than anyone else (she was Mr BM's grannie).
I have found a Thomas and Jeannie Martin in the passenger lists but my subscription doesn't cover it, you may want to check it out, can't even give you a date but it is in the 'Boston Passenger and Crew Lists 1820 -1943. '
