Edgars in Co Monaghan/Co Armagh, Ireland

Hi.

I'm looking for any info on my granny's family or any living Edgar relatives.

My gran's name was Jane Edgar. She was born in the 1890's (I think) the turn of the last century and died in Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh, in 1976 and her married name was Jane Mullen. She lived near Castleblayney, Co Monaghan for most of her life. She had a brother called Samuel who (again, I think) became a quaker and was also an Orangeman in either Monaghan/Armagh. I'm not sure if he married or had any children or if there are any other siblings. I have a feeling the family may have originally been of Scottish descent.

I can't seem to find any info about them and have signed on to Ancestry and the Genealogy websites. Hopefully someone on this website might be able to help me with this. Cheers.

Hi Dot. Yes I have looked on that website and have posted for other branches of the family, but it seems pretty slow. I don't know why I've not put this request on there...obviously an oversight. I'll post it now and see if I get a response.

I have had great success with www.genesreunited.co.uk which has put me in contact with a first cousin I haven't seem for 30 years and more distant cousins, one of whom has traced one branch of the family back to the 17th century.

I share the same name as your gran. I live in England but my Grandfather came from Scotland nr Sterling. My Father has investigated our family tree I'll ask him if any relatives emmigrated to Ireland. I know that some went to South Carolina, USA.
