freebmd.org.uk
and enter his details
That will give you a birth cert reference number, including the place his birth was registered (which might not be the same as the place he was born) together with the year and quarter it was registered, plus a volume and page number. Keep a record of that information, then go to:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/obtai ningbirthcertificates/index.asp
and use it to order the certificate online.
It will cost you 7.

You should find it here, i am guessing it is Ramsbottom lane in Ramsbottom though there was one in Bury.
