Boydell.How did they lose the right, to the throne of England

The Boydell's are direct decendants to William the Conqueror. How did their present day decendants (a friend of mine is a direct linage Boydell), lose the right to be the royal family today?

I was always led to believe that there are no possible direct male descendants from any of the knights that came over with the Conqueror but not sure if that meant from him aswell.

They lost the right, in law, during 1701.

imagine each generation has four kids... averaged out over, say, 30 generations that comes to about 1 quintillion people (1,000,000,000,000,000, slightly more than the world's population)... so I guess they've had to do a bit of pruning from time to time...
