If your parents were married, your mother's maiden name should be on your birth certificate. If she was a single mother then her name should still be on your birth certificate.

I am assuming you only have a short birth certifcate for yourself. You need a full birth certifcate for yourself which will give your parent's names and your mother's maiden name. It can be obtained from the Register Office in the area your birth was first registered or from, it will cost you £7.00. You can also order it from the General Register Office but it will cost more from them.
