Further to Dot's website - The name Fraser/ Frazer is Scottish in origin but the family (like lots of important Scots - Bruce, Wallace, Montgomery etc) originated in France. The "coat of arms" of Fraser is an example of "canting" heraldry - i.e. the symbols in the shield are puns of the family's name. The use of strawberry flowers (fraises in French) is an allusion to the name Fraser - not the other way round. The original name is probably from a placename in Anjou - Fresel/ Friselle/ Freseau - Frizell is still a variant (though an uncommon one) of the name in Scotland. ( I seem to remember that ex-GMTV presenter Phillips husband is Martin Frizell.)
