Lower Lye / Upper Lye, Herefordshire
5 Answers
Can anyone tell me anything about a methodist chapel which used to stand between Lower and Upper Lye in Herefordshire? It is long since gone but there is still a tiny graveyard within a fenced coppice alongside the lane from Upper to Lower Lye ...... my G G G grandmother was taken here from Walsall to be buried in 1870 - does anyone know here I can get the burial plan to see that this is the correct spot?

But if you get no where there, then try the central methodist Archive, they may be able to help. have you found the chapel on an old map or in a contemporary town directory?

I also wonder if it isn't the Almeley chapelk you need in which case the Herefordshire Family History Society have published their project to record all the Monumental inscriptions for the Non Conformist chapel there:

I would imagine the reason your GGG gtandmother was buried there was because he family were part of the congregation of the Chapel, which means you may as well start looking at the census returns for the villages around there too, also there will probably be others of her family buried in that Ground.
Yes , when you look at the actual return, you can click at the top to search the next folio, a village is probably covered in one Enumeration Distict, which would only take a few minutes to scroll though page by page. It's good doing it that way in a villgae because you get an idea on occupations and common surnames too, If you scroll left til you get to the description of the enumerators walk you can get an idea of the size of the place too.
