Great Great Grandfather Lost At Sea

On my Great Gran's birth certificate, 1882, it was recorded that her Father was deceased. He was a Master Mariner. Henry Goulden (sometimes written as Youlden) Furneaux. How can I find out what happened to him?

No. Kingston upon Hull.

Was his wife called Albania? Just abit confused about an entry on the 1861 and 1881 census, it's a more common name thatn I thought but i still keep coming back to the same person. have you come across the Naval vessel the HMS James Watt in your research?

My great grandma Blanche (i was 7 when she died) was born at Ellis's Brickyard, Barton-on Humber, just across the bridge, which wasn't there in 1879 when she was born BTW.

His wife was called Margaret. He was originally for Totnes in Devon. I will check out the web site. Thanks to all who replied.

then one i keep turning up was from totnes registration district and served on HMS James Watt, if he died at sea and had left the navy he could have been working as a coast guard, which is what i originally found .

How about trying to contact the Lloyds Shipping Register? They hold details of all vessels from 1760 odd? They may be able / willing to help, although they may charge, just a thought good luck H

ignore the above.....he's too old and has wrong wives.....but he was the coastguard in Wales.

Henry Furneaux born 1850 married Margaret Martin in Q3 1881 in Hull...........H Furneaux aged 31 died in 1882 on board the Norfolk.

It looks like Henry's brother Upham Furneaux died on board the Hope in 1881.

most of that family were born in brightlingsea devon for generations craft, but they scvattered all over the place.

I'm quite convinced this is they guy dot.........the wife is called Margaret as stated and they married in Hull where the daughter was born.

I assume Henry' aged 11 months took the middle name Goulden from the above John Goulden....and they're from Brixham.

yes it ;looks right to me, whay happened to the Norfolk ? I've found The Hope in Hull for the 1881 census in part 2 but not found the Norfolk yet, if someone has to time to look for it :
