Anyway, my theory is that although he was born in Ireland, his parents originated here. I say this for a couple of reasons. Firstly the name DeRippe in England appears to originate in the Wakerley/collyweston area of Northants which is only about 30 miles from Wisbech where Joseph ended up. Secondly, the Hurry family seem to have had quite an extended family circle and they all seem to inter-marry and leave money to each other. In a family will there is a reference to Joseph Bishop. However, this wouldn't be my chap since the will was proved in 1815 (but could possibly have been his father).
I know the De Rippe name is not a Hurry name because despite my theory that they were either Huguenots or Walloons that would have been a couple of hundred years earlier.
THe only other theory I have is that the Hurrys were all tenant farmers on the Duke of Bedford's land. He also had significant areas of land in Ireland. I wonder if the Bishops went to Ireland as his servant?
I'm just completely befuddled now and don't know where to go next!!!!
Help, please!!
