Working on a family tree - which always raises more questions and thoughts. My husband's father was a civil servant at the British Residency in Hyderabad.. At some point he received the British Empire Medal.

His job title at some point in his career was 'Superintendent of the Political Division'. Does anyone know what kind of work this job entailed or, from where I might get such information?

his role was probably to control communications and information that might be sensitive or valuable
BTW jannway I discovered one of my great-grandads worked in Hyderabad in the 1880s - I think he might have been a railway worker, he certainly wasn't posh. Small world eh?
Mosaic I beoieve it was still owned by the East India Company at that time
