1985 Q of F from S to G

There are two questions on my Millennium Quiz I can't solve. The answer to each year concerns that year - could be a death, marriage, war, event, sport or something completely different.

The other one is: 1996 R - 1 B 1 G in A

1 Bronze 1 Gold in Atlanta and the R must be an athlete (it isn't a country - I checked). This answer forwarded by my boyfriend who hasn't registered here yet but whose eyes gleamed when I told him about the site!!!!
