What did American Patriots do at Lexington and Concord?

They fought the British at the start of the American War of Independence. Both were battles which the American colonists won and which have gone down in US military history (I think they were the first victories of the war).
A motto still exists today from the Battle of Concord: "They fired the shot heard 'round the world"...
By the way... "they" refers to the militiamen of the time, better known as "Minutemen"... ready in a minute's notice...
Paul Revere made his midnight ride from Boston to Concord to warn the Minutemen of the approaching British Army. I toured that area a few years ago and features of the War of Independence are everywhere - which is a good thing I suppose.
