A TV Documentary on WW1 in the Far East revealed a fascinating nugget . In order to dislodge German Troops from Tsing Tao the British had a Japanese Contingent with them . There was a strong implication that the success of this mission encouraged Japan to expand as it showed the Western Powers to be beatable. How inevitable was Japan's Expansionism?
