I'm assuming you think he was too young at the time to be in the armed forces?
If he was born in January 1929 he could have served in the navy, as many 16 year olds did, in which case he would be entitled to at least 3 medals: the Victory Medal, the 1939-45 medal and one for the area in which he served, i.e. Atlantic Star, Africa Star etc.

He would have been only 16 when the war ended. Was there a Homeguard medal ?

The advert was for BUPA, not Saga.
According to this week's Private Eye, BUPA admitted that "Charlie actually won his medal in the Middle East in 1948". So "a war" rather than "the War".

Thanks for that answer Jonathan-Joe. So it was "a war" rather than "the War", that makes more sense.

I did wonder what the medal was, because if he was in "the War" then, as captainkirk says, he would have been awarded more than one medal.
