Inscribed Silver Salver
I have a solid silver salver made at the beginning of the 20C. It has approx 15 gentleman's signatures engraved in the silver including my late husband's great grandfather's.
How can I find out about these signatures, the ones I can decipher that is?

It could be a commemorative civic piece possibly, which if it is might also be mentioned in local contemporary newspapers. Is there a date inscribed or perhaps a good set of hallmarks? It probably isn't a work related piece though it might be sports related, your research should link into maybe the 1911 census? My great grandfathers were all on the 1901 and or 1911 and their occupations could give a clue. If it is perhaps linked to a civic office then the minutes of the town/borough council would refer to such a presentation piece and the minutes will be bound and published and archived also at the local reference library. Alternatively, ask family members, you never know who is aware of it's existence.
