If it turns out that these are Richard III remains, do you think there should be a state funeral?

They have a descendant from Canada called Michael Ibsen, who is providing the dna sample. The line came from Richard 3rd's sister Anne.

Are you really interested in history mosaic or just keen to be flippant? I took it this was a serious thread. ( And your whatnots and thingys are Edward ll and the Duke of Clarence.Or was that funny too?) We are rather fond of Richard lll here with all his imperfections, real or contrived by Shakespeare! I am all for lols but maybe on ChatterBank or somewhere? No offence. Just surprised.
Sorry to hear that History has had a humour bypass.
Personally I have always found humour to be the best way to deal with daft ideas like spending my tax money on burying someone who has been dead for centuries.
Wonder who 'we' are Flicrat - but you missed a massive opportunity to say 'we are not amused'.....

A state funeral would mean that they get the practice in that they have been seeking ahead of QE2 popping her socks. It could get them out of a bind as to the possible one for Margaret Thatcher. Any mention of that on here, especially CB, promotes a torrent of abuse from the anti-Maggies.
History evolves and this discovery is a wonderful example of it, if the DNA turns out to be true. I would also think that they are trying to work out the genealogy of his two acknowledged bastard children to replicate the analysis.

You have to distinguish between Queen and Queen Consort. The status of the latter as in any of Henry VIII's wives (assuming normal death) or in the case of Phil the Greek is a Royal Ceremonial Funeral (as per Diana and the Queen Mum). A full state funeral as those who remember 1965 and Churchill's can testify.
A state funeral can be accorded for "exceptional" service to the benefit of the nation......wit Wellington or Churchill. There is also precedence in families turning the offer down, wit Disraeli and Nightingale in the 19thC. so if Thatch has been accorded one, then Mark and Carol could say "No".....
Hope I am not totally humourless, but there you go!I missed the point and should be roling in the aisles. It has taught me never to try to answer a thread. My mistake. Sorry all. It COULD be the "royal we" as i am related ( on the wrong side of the blanket!!) to the Black Prince, but I meant here in Leicester "we". Forgive the humour bypass of a 74 year old git.Guess my BA History 1959 is a bit old hat now!! I love learning though and assumed there was a real thirst for knowledge in the original question. Bowing out gracefully and apologies to all I have offended.
