I addition to this Britain was planning to either incinerate the german troops on the beaches of gas them with mustard gas. By the time there was another opportunity Hitler was exhausting his resources in Russia and the allied air forces were growing faster than Hitler's.
.......plus, had the germans been able to establish a beach-head, it would have been almost impossible (based on the amount of supplies needed, per division, by the "barbarossa" invasion force) to have kept the invasion force supplied, even if they'd managed to get unmolested use of Dover and Folkestone harbours.
lack of air supremacy, they did a fair old job on London in the Blitz, had they continued on in that vein who knows what might have happened.
As to naval power, they had plenty of that, however it didn't happen, and the Russians played a large part in making sure they got what they deserved, at a massive cost i must add.

Speculation, MiLord.
They would have retreated in six months after tasting our diet, tea and warm beer back then, never mind our outstanding humility and deep love of foreigners, as well as our ABer previous generations who, if like the folk on here, would have had them soon pulling their hair out in frustration.

One thing that I have never been able to understand is the fact that although London took a pounding during the blitz, most of it's historical buildings etc were hardly touched?
Yes St Paul's and Buckingham Palace sustained damage, but what about Nelson' Column and Big Ben, the Tower and Tower Bridge, surely they must have stuck out like a sore thumb?

it would have been the royal family either eliminated or exiled, the politicians would have been interned, then most likely shipped out to some place unsavoury, the intelligentsia would have been eliminated, don't want any opposition, homosexuals, mentally ill, frail, feeble, Jews, all gone, you really don't want to consider what else they would have done, but people like Goebbels, Himmler, and Mengele were not noted for their kindly ways, monsters and sadists.

Although only one bomb fell on the Tower of London in the First World War (it landed harmlessly in the moat), the Second World War left a greater mark. On 23 September 1940, during the Blitz, high-explosive bombs damaged the castle, destroying several buildings and narrowly missing the White Tower. After the war, the damage was repaired and the Tower of London was reopened to the public.[134]
