General mobilization was tantamount to war. At the end of July 1914, it was the mobilization orders that set into motion the Great War; once given, the orders could not be rescinded.

Yes indeed: http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/timeline_of_world_war_one.htm

Everyone in this country knows that Britain declared ward on Germany on 4 August 1914, but the war "officially" (for want of a better term) began when Austria declared war on Serbia 100 years ago yesterday.

Things taking on a momentum of their own. Once it had started nothing could stop it.
A great Pity.

And a hundred years after the war to end all wars there is killing all over the world. Needless, pointless, inhumane killing.

We often see a war as individual event with a beginning and an end, but in fact it has no exact beginning, and unfortunately looks like it may never end.
The more one studies history the more it become apparent how interconnected all human conflicts are.
France certainly bore great responsibility the instigation of hostilities in 1914.
Man's inhumanity to man just about sums it all up.

Our cousins the Chimps are evil and dangerous too.

Is there hope for mankind?

Question Author
Chimps evil? I thought the Bonobo chimps spent their lives in an endless hedonistic orgy of eating and copulation.
Not only chimps Sandy
No, that's Bankers you're thinking of.
Lol:-)
I think that Bonobos are slightly different. I remember watching a documentary about them with my dad. They were humping anything that stood still. My dad was a bit old fashioned and was horrified at their behaviour.

Chimps kill and eat other chimps just because they want to. Some stupid humans have kept them as pets - I have read of a few cases where the chimp has attacked an eaten some of the human's fleshy bits. I am sure one guy lost his digits, his buttocks and his genitals.

Compared to Chimps we are almost civilised. Almost.
and don't forget the tea, sandyRoe

Tea's a funny thing. You can drink it fairly hot but if it's dribbled on the groin it suddenly seems scalding.
Evian water for a while, I think.
especially painful if you're a chimp and not wearing much in the way of weatherproof clothing.
I thought that was a reference to PG Tips jno.

The Tetley chimps had great table manners. I never saw them dribbling and they always cocked the little finger while sipping.
I think they had quite posh accents - well for Tetley tea - baggers anyway.
